SwimmingSA is proud to announce a new partnership with Olly Timing, naming the Australian-designed technology company as its Official Innovation Partner.
Olly Timing was founded by swimming administrator and technical official Ben Ramsden to make running competitions easier, faster and more efficient. Using high-speed video and advanced AI computer vision, Olly detects the starting flash and the exact moment each swimmer touches the wall. The result is a smarter, more seamless timing process that supports officials, provides backup on demand and ensures every swimmer’s performance is captured accurately.
It’s a technology that’s already turning heads across the country. From its early prototypes within New South Wales and Victoria, Olly Timing has quickly evolved into one of Australia’s most exciting sport-tech stories, earning the ANZ Sports Technology Award for Stadium & Venue Technology (2024) and operating at major competitions interstate. Now, through this partnership, SwimmingSA and Olly Timing will work together to explore how this innovation can be introduced and scaled in South Australia. That includes piloting OllyGo, Olly’s portable timing system, at the 2026 South Australian Country Championships in Port Pirie.
“Clubs can now run meets with 75% fewer people, and controversial results can be rapidly adjudicated from video replay. We are super excited to both share our proven technology with, and learn from, the South Australian swimming community.”
Ben Ramsden, Founder Olly Timing
For SwimmingSA, this partnership is part of our broader commitment to create competition environments that are smarter, fairer and more sustainable for everyone involved, athletes, coaches, parents, and volunteers alike.
“We’re always looking for ways to make it easier for people to get involved in our sport. Our partnership with Olly Timing provides the foundation to explore how this technology could reshape the way our competitions operate, and how we might deliver events that are smarter, more sustainable, and more enjoyable for everyone on pool deck.”
Michelle Doyle, CEO SwimmingSA
Timing has long been one of the most resource-intensive parts of competition delivery. By introducing technology that can assist and automate parts of this process, we’re exploring ways to reduce the burden on families and officials while maintaining the accuracy and integrity our sport relies on. Working alongside Olly Timing gives us the opportunity to learn, test and shape how innovation can improve swimming at every level, from local club meets through to state championships.
This partnership enables us to build capability, create new pathways for volunteers and embrace solutions that make our sport stronger and more sustainable. Together, we’re excited to bring this next chapter of innovation to life in South Australia and redefine how swimming is delivered, supported and experienced.
