Olly Timing records its first world record (provisional)

HUGE congratulations to Alexa Leary for provisionally setting a new World Para Swimming S9 World Record for 50m freestyle at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre on 17th May 2025.

Leary stopped the clock at 27.23″ beating the previous record by 0.05″. The record is currently provisional pending formal recognition by World Para Swimming. Once formalised she will hold the S9 World Records for both 50m and 100m freestyle.

Olly Timing was there to record the time in its role as official backup time provider for Swimming NSW at their prestigious Sydney Open & UniSport Nationals 2025 event.

Olly Timing is currently not validated for recording World Records so 3 manual timekeepers were rostered onto lane 4 for that event. These became redundant because the touchpad successfully recorded Alexa’s time.

Despite not being validated for World Records, Olly Timing’s world leading AI successfully recorded a time that exactly matched that from the official touchpad. The official human backup timekeepers also did a fantastic job, but were not quite as accurate on this occasion.

“Alexa and her team have invested so much hard work to achieve this incredible milestone”, commented Olly Timing Founder, Ben Ramsden. “It was a honour to witness the occasion and be a tiny part of it”.
