SNSW’s Country Swimming Championships lost access to the Olly Timing backup timing system at 3:13pm on Saturday 11th July. After a short delay SNSW deployed backup timekeepers for the rest of the session which lasted about an hour.
Preliminary investigations report that a sudden break in the fibre optic cable on the gantry above the pool was the cause. Overnight a replacement connection was deployed and the meet ran successfully on Sunday with Olly Timing fully operational and without backup timekeepers.
No times were lost during this incident and the session finished ahead of schedule at 4:15pm.
We sincerely regret this incident, and apologise to all impacted. To mitigate the possibility of future occurrences more robust cable protection is now being arranged.
